John Stano

Band Name: John Stano with special guest Dennis Waltman on dobro

Members: John Stano, Dennis Waltman

Genre: Americana, folk and blues

Description: John Stano performs original Folk, Blues and Americana on acoustic, and National steel slide guitar with strong, expressive vocals and masterful rack harmonica. John was nominated for a 2019 Wisconsin Area Music Industry Award (WAMI) for Folk Artist, his third nomination to date and was a 2018 'Great River Folk Festival Songwriting Contest Finalist.' He received the ‘Wisconsin Singer Songwriter Series Songwriter of the Year’ award in 2012. He represented Wisconsin in the solo/duo category at The 2012 International Blues Challenge held on historic Beale Street in Memphis and was also a 2010 ‘Big Top Chautauqua Songwriter of the Year’ national finalist. His songs ‘From A Rusty Cadillac’ and ‘Pontiac’s No More’ were featured on NPR’s ‘Car Talk.’ Dirty Linen compared John's music to Country Joe McDonald. Commenting on John’s latest two recordings the Shepherd Express said; “His vocal resemblance to John Prine may be a plus for some, but Stano’s songwriting voice is his own, apt for the folksinger’s task of chronicling the local while relating it to the universal.”

Dennis Waltman is the dobro player for the popular bluegrass band 'Freshwater.'
